Terms of service

1. What the service is

Ostiara publishes websites you upload, gives them a web address, and stores files for you and your team. What each plan includes is set out on the pricing page, which forms part of these terms.

2. Your account

Give us accurate details and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what the people you invite into your account do with it, including anything they publish. If you think someone has your password, tell us and change it.

You must be able to enter a contract in your country to open an account.

3. Your content stays yours

Everything you upload stays yours. That covers your websites, your files, and the information your websites collect. You give us only the permission we need to run the service, which is to store it, to copy it between our systems, and to serve it to visitors when you publish it. That permission ends when you delete the content or close your account.

4. What you may not put here

• Anything illegal where you are, or anything you do not have the right to publish.
• Malware, phishing pages, or anything designed to deceive a visitor.
• Sending unsolicited bulk email from a website hosted here.
• Attempts to reach another customer's data, to get around the limits on your account, or to test our security without asking us first. Ask us first, and we will say yes.
• Mining cryptocurrency, or using your website as a proxy to attack someone else.

5. Limits

Each plan has a storage allowance and a limit on how many websites may be online. If you go slightly over your storage allowance we do not block your uploads. We tell you, and give you room to sort it out. Individual uploads are capped at 100 MB, and a website that runs its own program is capped at 512 MB of memory and 20 seconds per request.

6. Websites that run their own code

On the paid plan your website can run a program you supply. You are responsible for what that program does, including any third-party libraries in it, and for anything it collects from your visitors.

One property of how these run is worth stating plainly rather than leaving you to find it: temporary files and anything kept in memory can survive between visitors to your own website. The isolation between different customers is absolute, but within your own site a value you leave in a temporary file may still be there when the next person arrives. Do not use temporary storage for one visitor's personal data. Store it in the built-in database, which keeps each record where you put it.

7. Availability

We work to keep the service running and we do not promise it will never be interrupted. There is no guaranteed uptime figure attached to these terms. We would rather offer none than one we cannot yet measure. Planned work that will interrupt anything is announced by email to account owners in advance.

8. Plans, prices and payment

The free plan is permanent. It is not a trial and it does not expire. Payments are not currently switched on. The paid plan is enabled at no charge while we are in early access, and we will not begin charging any existing account without telling them first and giving them the choice to stay on the free plan.

Moving from the paid plan to the free plan takes websites beyond your free allowance offline. It deletes nothing. Your files, uploads and records remain, and moving back puts the websites online again as they were.

9. Ending it

You can stop using the service at any time and ask us to close your account and delete your data. We may suspend or close an account that breaks section 4, and except where the content is causing active harm we will tell you what the problem is and give you a chance to fix it first.

10. Liability

We provide the service as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost profits, lost business or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. We keep earlier versions of files for 90 days, which is a safety net, not a backup service.

11. Changes to these terms

We will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects your rights, account owners get an email before it takes effect.

12. Which law applies

The laws of Malaysia, and its courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these terms.
